II. ABOUT THE AUTHOR
_____________________________________________________________________________

Hello! I take it that if you are reading this part of this FAQ, you are
probably pretty bored. My name is Bryant and I am writing a FAQ on Harvest
Moon: Back To Nature because my obsession of Harvest Moon is starting to get
really high. I am currently 13 years old. Yes, I know, I know, a first time
FAQ writer. I will try my best to write a good FAQ on Harvest Moon, with all
the possible secrets and rumors. Also, if you want, you can feel free to send
me (at BryantT13@aol.com) contributions to this FAQ and I will give you the
proper credit that you deserve. Well, I hope you like my FAQ. (And soon to be
walkthrough too!)

III. COMPARING N64 WITH PLAYSTATION
_____________________________________________________________________________

In this section of the FAQ, I will tell the differences between Harvest
Moon 64 with Harvest Moon: Back To Nature.

- Harvest Moon: Back To Nature has the same "2 and one-half" graphics as
Harvest Moon 64, but has sharper colors and is in more detail.

- There are more crops in Back to Nature then Harvest Moon 64.

- The characters live in different houses than in Harvest Moon 64.

- There is a walk-in stable for your horse in Harvest Moon: Back To Nature.

- There are different and more festivals in the Playstation version like the
chicken sumo festival and the tomato fight festival.

- You can "raise" fish in Harvest Moon: Back To Nature.

- In the other versions of the game, the people just stayed in one place the
whole day. In Harvest Moon: Back To Nature, the people are more life-like and
are sometimes hard to find during the day.

As you can see, Harvest Moon: Back To Nature is a quite a bit better
than Harvest Moon 64. In my opinion, Harvest Moon: Back To Nature is a lot
more fun to play too!!! This game is one of the best games for Playstation,
it even starts to compare with the Final Fantasy Series.

V. THE BEGINNING
_____________________________________________________________________________

You are a little boy and are supposed to go on a vacation with your
dad. (who knows where your mother is....) Just before your vacation, your dad
has been asked to go on a business trip. So, you get stuck having to go to
your grandfathers farm. You think it's going to be boring there with
absolutely nothing to do and you grandfather even tells you that there won't
be much to do since he is going to be to busy working on the farm. When you
get there, you meet a girl and become friends with her fast. You spend hours
with her, singing songs, playing games, and having a lot of fun. When it
comes time for you to come back home, you promise her that you will come back
some day and marry her.
Ten years have passed. When you visit your grandfathers farm, you find
out that he has passed away. The mayor comes and tells you he will give you
three years to fix up your grandfathers farm.(which is in a real wreck.) You
decide to try to fix up the farm and try to find the girl that you promised
to marry.....

_____________________________________________________________________________
VI. CHARACTERS
_____________________________________________________________________________

---------------*****Eligible Characters You Can Date/Marry*****--------------

Just to start off, there are 5 eligible girls you can date/marry. As
in Nintendo 64, the five young woman are Elli, Popuri, Ann, Maria, and Karen.
When you talk to the girls they have a little heart on the bottom of the
message. Each different kind of heart color means a different kind of
attraction towards you. To get the heart to a higher color, you have to be
nice to the girl and give her the things that she likes. I am still
experimenting with what the girls like and dislike, and will have more
information on that later. Well here are the different colors and meanings of
the hearts.

BLACK HEART- She wishes that she never met you and that you would move to
another town!!!
PURPLE HEART- She is indifferent.
BLUE HEART- She thinks you are attractive.
GREEN HEART- She starts to fall in love with you.
YELLOW HEART- She begins to go out on dates with you.
ORANGE HEART- She starts to think about marrying you.
RED HEART- She is madly in love with you and wants to marry you.

I will now go into more depth of each character that you can
date/marry and explain how they look.

64 version of the game. She is usually working at the supermarket from 1-4

17th

POPURI- She dyed her hair pink and she adores the animals in the forest. She
can be found at around 8 A.M. near the hot springs in the mountains. Her
birthday is Summer 3rd.

ELLI- She has brown hair and her hair is cut short to her chin. She is
usually at the Hospital/Clinic. Her birthday is Spring the 16th.

MARY- She has black hair and glasses. She still works in the library, as in
the Nintendo 64 version, but the library is now two stories tall. She can be

products and judges them to find out what one is the best.

VII. TOOLS
_____________________________________________________________________________

In this section, I will list the basic tools that you can use. Some of
these tools have never been in any Harvest Moon before.

***HAMMER***- You start with this tool: The hammer will break small
stones and once you upgrade it can break bigger stones and if you upgrade it
again you can start to break big boulders.

***SICKLE***- You start with this tool: The sickle will help you a lot
by cutting the grass and it can also cut the dieing crops. You can also use
this to cut the weeds, but it is easier pulling the weeds up by hand and it
also saves your energy.

***HOE***- You start with this tool: The hoe will till the soil so you
can plant seeds and grow crops. You can also till or "dig" in the mine with
the hoe to get some minerals.

***AX***- You start with this tool: The ax will chop branches around
your field and after you upgrade this tool you can start to cut those
unwanted tree stumps.

***WATERING CAN***- You start with this tool: The watering can is
probably the most important tool because you wouldn't make a lot of money
without it. It will water your crops so you can harvest them and make money.

***FISHING ROD***- You get this tool from Greg, the fisher at the
beach: This tool can be hard to find because Greg is only at the beach from
7-10 A.M. on Thursdays. You can fish with this and after you catch a fish you
can put it in your fish pond and raise the fish.

***FISHING POLE***- This tool may prove to be slightly harder then it
is to get the Fishing Rod. The good thing about the Fishing Pole though is
that it is easier to catch fish with and you can catch the 6 Legendary Fish
with it. To get the Fishing Pole, you need to have the Fishing Rod. Once you
have stored/bread at least 50 fish in your Fishing Pond, Greg will come by
one day a compliment you for catching so many fish. He also says that you are
probably going to be a excellent fisherman one day. He is so happy with you
he gives you the Fishing Pole. This is the best Fishing Pole there is so use
it wisely to catch the 6 Legendary Fish. If you want to know how to catch
each and every Legendary Fish, check out my Secrets Section!!!

***BRUSH***- You can buy this tool from Saibara: The brush is an
another important tool because it will keep most of your animals happy with
it. You can brush your horse, cows, and sheep with this tool and make them
like you more.
***RUCKSACK***- You start with this tool but, you can also buy bigger
ones: The rucksack will hold your tools in the top part. The bottom part will
hold foods, flowers, and minerals you can from the mines. When you first get
it though, you only can hold two things in it but, after you upgrade it you
can hold a lot more.

***MILKER***- You can buy this tool from Saibara: The milker will milk
your cows in the barn. The name of the game to get a lot of milk is, the
happier the cow, the better the milk.

***CLIPPERS***- You can buy this tool from Saibara: The clippers will
shear the wool from your sheep. Also, if the sheep is a happy sheep, you will
get better wool.

***BASKET***- You can buy this tool from the Supermarket: The basket
you can buy and can be pretty expensive but it is well worth the money and
can save you a lot of time. You can have up to 30 crops in the basket at one
time. You can carry this around to your rows of crops and load the crops in
the basket. Then, you bring it over to any shipping bin and press the square
button to dump the crops in the shipping bin.

***DOG BALL***- You can buy this tool from Won once your dog is fully
grown: Once your dog is fully grown, Won will come to your house one day and
sell you this tool. You should buy it because it can help your dog win the
Dog Race Festival. All you have to do is throw the ball near your dog, and
your dog will retrieve it.

_____________________________________________________________________________
VIII. SEASONS
_____________________________________________________________________________

As a lot of you people know, there are different seasons in the game.
These seasons are Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. You can grow different
crops in different seasons. When you play a new game, you will always start
out in the 1st of Spring. When I say that you can re-grow a crop, I mean that
as long as you keep on watering the crops, it will continue to produce
throughout the season without having to buy new seeds. I shall now explain
what crops you can grow in the different seasons.

(((((*****SPRING*****)))))

TURNIPS- money you get for each crop: 60g- Days to fully grow: 4- Can you
re-grow this crop?: NO

POTATOES- money you get for each crop: 80g- Days to fully grow: 7- Can you
re-grow this crop?: NO

CABBAGE- money you get for each crop: 250g- Days to fully grow: 14- Can
you re-grow this crop?: NO

CUCUMBERS- money you get for each crop: 60g- Days to fully grow: 9- Can
you re-grow this crop?: YES

STRAWBERRIES- money you get for each crop: 30g- Days to fully grow: 8- Can
you re-grow this crop?: YES

(((((*****SUMMER*****)))))

ONIONS- money you get for each crop: 80g- Days to fully grow: 7- Can you
re-grow this crop?: NO

PUMPKINS- money you get for each crop: 250g- Days to fully grow: 14- Can
you re-grow this crop?: NO

TOMATOES- money you get for each crop: 60g- Days to fully grow: 9- Can you
re-grow this crop?: YES

CORN- money you get for each crop: 100g- Days to fully grow: 14- Can you
re-grow this crop?: YES

PINEAPPLE- money you get for each crop: 500g- Days to fully grow: 20- Can
you re-grow this crop?: YES

(((((*****FALL*****)))))

CARROTS- money you get for each crop: 120g- Days to fully grow: 7- Can you
re-grow this crop?: NO

SPINACH- money you get for each crop: 80g- Days to fully grow: 5- Can you
re-grow this crop?: NO

EGGPLANT- money you get for each crop: 80g- Days to fully grow: 9- Can you
re-grow this crop?: YES

SWEET POTATOES- money you get for each crop: 120g- Days to fully grow: 5-
Can you re-grow this crop?: YES

GREEN PEPPERS- money you get for each crop: 40g- Days to fully grow: 7-
Can you re-grow this crop?: YES

(((((*****WINTER*****)))))

In the winter, you can't grow crops unless you have a hothouse. A
hothouse is like a mini greenhouse. There are no special seeds for the winter
so if you have the hothouse, you have to use some of the other seeds from the
other seasons. When you grow crops in the hothouse, you can make a little
extra money from the crops along if you are mining too!

_____________________________________________________________________________
IX. ANIMALS
_____________________________________________________________________________

In this Section, I will tell you about the various animals in the game.
Even though animals look like they wouldn't be a very big money maker, never
underestimate them. They can prove to be quite a profit on your farm. Make
sure that you herd the animals inside the barn on rainy days...

(((((*****CHICKENS*****)))))

Chickens are one of the most easiest and affordable animals in the
game. All you need to do to raise a chicken is feed it everyday. After you
buy one chicken, there is no need to buy anymore. You just have to hatch the
rest of the chickens in the incubator with the chickens egg. Each chicken
only lays one egg a day. After you extend your chicken coop from Gotz, you
can buy a mayonnaise maker that you can turn your eggs into mayonnaise.
Mayonnaise is also a lot more profitable then eggs so it is a good investment
to buy one.

(((((*****COWS*****)))))

Cows can be one the most profitable animals in the game but, They do
require a quite a bit of care. Before you buy a cow, you should plant plenty
of grass so that Yodel Ranch will sell you a cow. Everyday, you should brush
each cow, talk to them and feed them to keep it healthy and producing milk.
While your cows milk get some money in, the cheese maker will be more
profitable. In order to get the cheese maker, you need to expand your barn
and then buy it from the blacksmith. Also, the C.M. Potion will get your cow
pregnant so you can raise another cow. The only bad thing about the pregnancy
is that you can't milk the mother cow while she is pregnant.

(((((*****SHEEP*****)))))

Just like cows, you need enough fodder for Yodel Ranch to sell one to
you. You also, like cows, have to brush, talk, and feed each sheep everyday.
The sheep produce wool every seven days and is worth a quite a bit of money.
If you upgrade the barn, you can buy a yarn maker machine from the
blacksmith. Yarn is worth a lot of money in this town. Also, like cows, you
can pregnant the sheep with a S.M Potion. You also can't shear the sheep when
they are pregnant.

(((((*****DOG*****)))))

Your trusty old dog. You should pet your dog everyday and play ball
with him/her to make your dog happy. If you dog likes you, and if you play
ball with your dog a lot, your dog will start to do better in Dog Races and
with start to protect your crops from wild animals. You also don't have to
feed your dog. Just like the old saying, a dog is a mans (or woman) best
friend.

(((((*****HORSE*****)))))

You should brush your horse daily to make him happy. Also, like your
dog, you don't have to feed your horse. You should try to be nice to your
horse to make him do good in the local horse race on the 18th of Spring.
Also, if you do not take care of your horse Barley will take him away. A lot
of towns people like a farmer that knows how to ride a well trained horse and
win in the horse race.

_____________________________________________________________________________
X. FESTIVALS
_____________________________________________________________________________

In this section of this FAQ, I will tell you the season and day of each
Festival and will explain each Festival also. There are a lot of different
festivals in this game and each one of them are fun to play.

(((((*****SPRING*****)))))

NEW YEARS FESTIVAL- 1st of Spring: For this Festival, all the townspeople
gather in the town square to think about the upcoming years and whats going
to happen in the next year.

GODDESS FESTIVAL- 8th of Spring: For this Festival, the girls that you can
marry will perform a dance for you. The day before the Festival, ask the girl
you like if she will go with you. If she doesn't like you enough, she will
probably say that she is going with someone else.

THANKSGIVING FESTIVAL- 14th of Spring: This really isn't a Festival, but you
and other townspeople give your friends sweets. If you give the girl that you
like a sweet, she will be happy.

LOCAL HORSE RACE FESTIVAL- 18th of Spring: For this Festival you can race
your horse or bet on the horse(s) that are going to win. You have to use
medals to bet on the horses. One medal costs 50g. Here are a list of prizes
you can get with the medals:

Power Berry: 1001 medals
Bracelet: 42 medals
Necklace: 35 medals
Earrings: 33 medals
Turbojolt XL: 21 medals
Bodigize XL: 15 medals
Truffle: 12 medals
Mystrile: 3 medals

COOKING FESTIVAL- 22nd of Spring: Once you have your kitchen, you can
participate in the Cooking Festival if you bring a homemade dish. A gourmet
judge will determine the winner of the Festival.

(((((*****SUMMER*****)))))

SWIMMING FESTIVAL- 1st of Summer: For this Festival, you try to swim to the
rock and beat everyone else. It's not as easy as it looks. You have to swim
and when you get tired you have to come up for some air. It is also hard
because Kai is a really fast swimmer and is often difficult to beat.

CHICKEN SUMO FESTIVAL- 7th of Summer: For this Festival, bring your happiest
chicken to compete against the other chickens. The chicken will try to knock
the other chicken out of the ring. Also, if you win. your chicken will start
to lay golden eggs that are worth a lot of money.

TOMATO FIGHT FESTIVAL- 12th of Summer: This Festival, in my opinion, is the
best. You can talk to people and they might ask you to join their team. The
team that you join will make everyone on that team like you more. Oh, and be
careful, Stu has a pretty good arm.

COW FESTIVAL- 20th of Summer: For this Festival, you should enter your
happiest cow (if you have one) for this Festival. If your cow wins the
Festival, it will become a lot happier and will start to produce some gold
milk that is worth a lot of money.

FIREWORKS FESTIVAL- 24th of Summer: This Festival starts at 6 P.M. at the
beach. You should ask the girl that you like to sit with you to watch the
fireworks. If you do, she will like you more.

(((((*****FALL*****)))))

MUSIC FESTIVAL- 3rd of Fall: For this Festival, you play music at the church
and Karen will sing. Be sure to go to the church at exactly 6 P.M. or the
Festival will be ruined.

HARVEST FESTIVAL- 9th of Fall: For this Festival, you can bring any food you
want to add to the huge bowl of soup. If you bring something bad, the
townspeople will all hate the soup. If you bring something good, they will
all like the soup.

MOON FESTIVAL- 13th of Fall: At 6 P.M. be sure to go up to the top of
Mother's Hill because the girl that you are dating will be waiting for you.
Both of you will watch the moon as it rises high in the sky and you will both
talk and have a good time. The girl that is with you will also like you a lot
more because you spent some time with her.

SHEEP FESTIVAL- 21st of Fall: For this Festival, you should enter your
happiest sheep. If your sheep wins the Festival it will start to grow golden
wool that is worth a lot of money.

(((((*****WINTER*****)))))

DOG RACE FESTIVAL- 10th of Winter: Just like the horse race, you will race
your dog, you walk ahead of your dog and it will follow your scent. if you
walk to fast it will lose your scent. Also, if your dog is happy it will be
easier to win.

ADMIRER THANKSGIVING FESTIVAL- 14th of Winter: I like this festival because
the girl(s) that like you will give you items and foods. The more girls that
like you, the more stuff you get.

STAR NIGHT FESTIVAL- 24th of Winter: You should talk to the girl that you
like often before the Star Night Festival because if she likes you she will
invite you to dinner with her and her parents. She will also like you more
after you have dinner.

NEW YEARS EVE FESTIVAL- 30th of Winter: At the top of Mother's Hill the
townspeople will gather to celebrate the beginning of a new year. Everyone
will also be thinking about the things that might happen throughout the next
year.

_____________________________________________________________________________
XI. WEATHER
_____________________________________________________________________________

In this game, weather can be one of the most important things that
will help you or it could destroy your farm. When it rains or snows out, you
don't have to water your plants because the rain/snow will water the plants
for you(just thought I'd mention about that the rain/snow waters your plants
because my dad was watering his plants when it was raining out and he didn't
know that the rain/snow waters it for you), which is a good thing.

The bad thing about when it rains/snows out is that when you work in
bad weather, you have a higher chance of getting sick and oversleeping. Also,
Hurricanes can occur and they can wipe out some of you crops along with your
Hothouse if you have one and it can also kill some of your animals if they
are outside(If they are not killed, then they are probably sick and you would
have to buy medicine to make them better). If this happens, it could cost you
a bundle to fix up your farm, buy new animals, and/or buy medicine for your
animals. So, to prevent this, you should watch the weather channel on your
television to be prepared. Just wanted to warn you that weather is important
in this game because it can get to cost a lot of money if you didn't take any
caution at all.

_____________________________________________________________________________

know when everybody's birthday is and when the upcoming festivals are. I will

to go to a festival but you don't know what day it is on. There is also only

XIV. SECRETS
_____________________________________________________________________________

In this section, I will tell you how to get the 10 Power Berries along
with the Special Power Berry. I will also tell you how to catch the 6
Legendary Fish. There will be more to this section when I find more secrets
out in the game. Enjoy!!!

----------------------*************POWER BERRIES*************---------------

You asked for it, and now you got it. All the Power Berries that you
can get in the game are here plus I have found the Special Power Berry. Well,
enough of the talk, here are the Power Berries!!!

Power Berry #1. Once you have won 1001 medals from the horse race, you can
trade in the medals to the mayor, for a Power Berry.

Power Berry #2. If you go fishing in the Ocean a lot, off of the pier,
then eventually you will catch a Power Berry while fishing. It takes a long
time to catch one though...

Power Berry #3. This Power Berry is pretty easy to get. Go into the Mine
near the Hot Springs and dig with your Hoe. Before you know it, you dug up a
Power Berry and your eating it.

Power Berry #4. This Power Berry is also easy to get. Go into the Winter
Mine and dig with your Hoe there. After a couple of minutes of digging, you
should find a Power Berry.

Power Berry #5. This Power Berry is extremely easy to get. All you have to
do is go behind the Winter Mine and keep on pressing the X button. When you
press the X button near the Upper Left Corner of the Winter Mine, you should
get a power berry.

Power Berry #6. This Power Berry is not that hard to get either. Go up to
the Cedar Tree that is standing all alone in the area in the Mountains where
there are tons of flowers and try to chop down the Cedar Tree. The Cedar Tree
will then talk to you saying that it is over 100 years old and that is does
not wish to chop down. If you tell the tree that you won't cut it down, it
will give you a Power Berry. Also, after the Cedar Tree has given you the
Power Berry, and you try to cut it down again, you will pass out, end up in
the Hospital, and Gotz will be very mad at you. So, I would suggest not to
try to cut the tree down after you got the Power Berry from it.

Power Berry #7. Once you have gotten all the Utensils from the T.V.
Shopping Network, they will offer to sell a Power Berry for only 5,000g. You
should go to the Restaurant and use the phone to order the Power Berry. Three
days later the Power Berry should arrive.

Power Berry #8. If you come in first in the Swimming Festival, and beat
every one else in town, you will receive a Power Berry for swimming really
good.

Power Berry #9. During the Summer, if you plant at least 90 flowers, Anna
should come by and ask to pick some. If you be a nice guy and let her pick as
many as she wants for free, she will give you a Power Berry. See what you can
get for doing good deeds.

Power Berry #10. This Power Berry is a little difficult to get. First,
make sure that you have ripe vegetables to be waiting to be picked on your
farm. Go to the Hot Springs and toss one of your vegetables in the pond. Make
sure that you are standing behind the waterfall. Also, only toss the
vegetable in the water on a Sunny Day. If you toss it in at Night, on a
Festival Day, or a Bad Weather Day, she will get mad at you. You must also
toss the vegetable in the pond, behind the waterfall if it is somewhere in
between 6 A.M.-9 P.M. Do this for five days in a row and she will give you a
Power Berry.

*****Secret Power Berry #11.***** Make sure you have three Cucumbers
before doing this. In either Spring, Summer, or Fall, bring 3 cucumbers to
the Mountains with you. Go to Mother's Lake and stand on the left side of the
Lake in front of the two trees. Note the you must be standing in the exact
spot for this to work!!! If you throw the three Cucumbers in the Lake, then
Kappa should appear. If he doesn't appear, get three more cucumbers and stand
in a slightly different place, but still stand under the two trees. Kappa
will tell you to stop following him and will give you a Special Power Berry.
This Power Berry will reduce your chance of getting sick by half
permanently!! With this Power Berry, you can work twice as hard on a Bad
Weather Day without getting sick. This Power Berry will help you out a great
lot!!!

-------------------*************6 LEGENDARY FISH*************---------------

Well, in this part of this FAQ, I will explain how and where to catch
those 6 Legendary Fishes. It may seem easy to catch them, but be warned, it's
not as easy as it looks. Well, first off, you need a Fishing Pole to start to
catch any of the Legendary Fish. I said a Fishing Pole, not a Fishing Rod. A
Fishing Pole is a little harder to get, but you can catch the Legendary Fish
only with the Fishing Pole. It also becomes easier to catch other fish with
the Fishing Pole.

When you catch a Legendary Fish, you will get a Fish Print. You can
view how many Fish Prints you have on the status screen by pressing start.
The bad thing about Legendary fish in that you can NOT bring them home to put
in your fish pond and you cannot sell them either. If you could sell them,
you would probably make A LOT of money. Oh well...

Now you have the Ultimate Fishing Pole that
can be used to catch the 6 Legendary Fish. So, what are you waiting for, lets
go catch some HUGE fish!!!

LEGENDARY FISH #1.- Sea Bream: To get this Legendary Fish, it must be
either Spring, Summer, or Fall. Once you have sold over 200 Fish, you can
catch this fish in the Ocean.

LEGENDARY FISH #2.- Squid: In the Summer, take a small fish from your
Fishing Pond and bring it to you to the Ocean. Throw the small fish in the
Ocean and cast you Fishing Pole in the Ocean right after you throw the small
fish in. The small fish acts as bait to attract the Legendary Fish. The "bait
is only good for on day though so if you don't catch the Legendary Fish the
first day you try it, you have to throw another small fish in the ocean for
bait the next day you try to catch this Legendary Fish. Confused yet?

LEGENDARY FISH #3.- Char: Once you have the Recipes for Sashimi, Grilled
Fish, and Sushi, you can catch this Legendary Fish. You can catch this
Legendary Fish in the River on your Farm and/or the Waterfall near the Hot
Springs in any Season.

LEGENDARY FISH #4.- Angler: To catch this Legendary Fish it must be
Winter. Go to the Ocean between 11 P.M.-8 A.M. and cast your Fishing Pole and
you should eventually catch this Legendary Fish.

LEGENDARY FISH #5.- Catfish: To get the Catfish, it must be Winter. Go to
the Winter Mine and keep on digging and digging and going down floors. Once
you have gone down enough floors, you will be in a room with a little Pond in
it. If you cast your Fishing Pole in the Pond, you will eventually catch this
Legendary Fish. Please note that you will need a lot of energy to do this, so
bring along some food to eat and gain energy back!

LEGENDARY FISH #6.- Carp: It must be Spring, Summer, or Fall to catch this
Legendary Fish. Once you have caught all the other five Legendary Fish, you
can catch this Legendary Fish in the Lake on Mother's Hill (The Mountain).

Well, here is all of the Six Legendary Fish. Who knows, there might be
a Secret Seventh Legendary Fish. Anything is possible. That's what I like
about never-ending games, the possibilities of tons of secrets can be
endless, thus, making the game more fun and enjoyable.
