Well I wanna thank you right off for coming to the Navy Field FAQ.
Quite an impressive online game, in that thier is not another game like it in
terms of style. So, lets take of the legal matters and then get onto
business.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am not gonna mumble crap and try to sound smart, using huge legal terms and
lawer latin latin to tell you what not to do with this guide. You've all heard
the same stuff before, and honestly, I dont feel like repeating it. So-I will
just lay it on you like 16 inch deckguns---DONT STEAL THIS FAQ. Its that
simple. Dont claim it as your own work, dont post it on your or anybody's
sites. Me and my best friend created this, with our years of Navy knowledge
and experiance. However, I am a understanding guy. If you want to use -PARTS-
of this guide, please do, but, YOU MUST SHOW CREDIT. That is all I ask. Of
course there is no way I can enforce it, but hey, least everyone knows that
this guide is mine, and not yours. So, without further ado, lets begin.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Navy games have always interested me. I used to play Empire Earth day in and
out, playing just WW2 to use the ships and do massive battles over the
internet. Well time passes, and I got a little bored of it. One night I was
crawling through Download.com, and stumbled upon Navy Field. At the time, I
didnt know what it was, so I downloaded it, installed and updated, then
finally got to the action. Believe me, I wished I had found this game a lot
sooner; not only was it incredibly additive, but it was a pretty accurate
naval game in terms. So I was hooked.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Getting Started
---------------
If you have not done so, go to www.navyfield.com , and click on a language
that you can understand. You will need to download the client, which is 285mb.
If you have dial-up, well, you either cant play or you need someone with a
fast connection to download it for you.

Once you have installed the game, return to the site, and make an account.
Remember the Username and Password, as these will be needed to log on to the
game servers.

Start the program, and it should spend the next 10-20 minutes (depending on
internet connection and server usage) update the program. Now would be a good
time to get a drink and use the bathroom.

Once the program starts up, you will see the Username and Password sections.
Also, note the server you are logging into. When you create a ship in one
server, you will NOT be able to transfer it over to the other server. So if
you have played for over a month and have got Battleship in one server, you
will have to start all the way at the bottom on the other server.I would
recomend, spending a lot of time in one server, but try to play in the other,
so that you will have something to work with if one of the servers does go
down.

Before you can go into battle, you will need to build a ship. You can do this
by clicking on "Shipyard" in the harbor area. Now you are in the ship yard.
You can buy a ship by clicking the 'New' button in bottom portion of the left
window. Since you are a newbie in Navy Field, you do not have any of the
bigger ships you want. Therefore, just buy a Frigate-01. A frigate is small,
but very fast ship. Click the "OK" button to buy this ship. Once you have
bought this ship, you need to give it a name. Spaces between letters are not
allowed and the number of letters is limited to 12. View the left window to
see the specifications of your ship such as its durability, displacement,
Fire Control System (FCS), and engine type. The Frigate has 4000 of durability
(its health) and 1600 of displacement(how much you can load onto it before it
sinks). The total weight of cannons and sailors cannot exceed its overall
displacement, so make sure to be aware of this limitation when you load
equipment onto the ship.

Before you can even launch your ship, you need a crew. So, you need to enlist
sailors. Sailors are needed to operate the ship. Only 3 sailors board a
Frigate. Click the "New" button in bottom window to enlist new sailors.
3,000 points are required to enlist one sailor and 10 points will be charged
when you choose to cancel. Name the sailor and click "Ok" to finish. Enlist
two more sailors if you wish. Drag and drop the sailors onto the ship after
finishing enlisting.

The next step in this process of getting your ship ready for war, is to load
your cannons, an engine, and the FCS. Let's start by loading the engine first.
To load an engine, click on the 'Change Engine' button. You will see a list
of the different types of engines available. You can scroll down this list
by clicking the down arrow on the left or by scrolling down the mouse wheel
button. You have to compare engines carefully, because lots of different
types are available. If you buy one that's too cheap the first time, then
the ship will be too slow in battle. If you buy an expensive one, then you
might not have enough money to buy other equipment when you need it. I do
recomend getting the heavy engines, beacuse if the ship cant move, its as
good as dead.

Next is to load the Fire Control System (FCS). To do this, click the red dot
circle on the ship. Follow the same procedure as you used to buy an engine.
However, MAKE SURE YOU BUY (AUTO). I cannot stress this enough. Other types
of FCS's, you have to use your keyboard to manually aim, and this makes the
game very diffuilt. By keeping the AUTO FCS, you click with your mouse, and
your turrets then track with the mouse. This is will prove invaluble during
a conflict.

After you have finished loading the cannons, you need to buy shells. Click
'A' button in the bottom window to do this. When you click on the "A"
button, you will see different types of shells. There are two kinds, HE and
APC shells. HE stands for 'High Explosive,' which are used when you want to
fire at long distance targets. AP stands for 'Armor Piercing,' which are
used for close quarters shooting. The AR shells will increase you chances of
making direct hits at close range targets. You can buy shells by the pack.
One pack has a total of 50 shells. The more shells you buy, the greater the
displacment, so watch it. A little note on AP and HE shells: I cannot really
tell of a damage difference, weather it be far or close, it seems to matter
the size of the guns, rather than the type of shell. However, DO use the
HEAVY shells. They dont take up that much more space, and will do greater
damage to ships.

Okay, once you have loaded these necessities, you are ready and armed to go
into battle!! When you are ready to get started, click on the yellow arrow
on the front of the ship to get started.

Once you click the yellow arrow, you are in a battle channel. On the upper
right hand corner you will see a mini map. Within the mini map you will see
two colors; red and green. The green will show you where you are right now
and red will indicate the various battles that are currently underway. If
you look at the top middle part of the map, you will see five blue buttons
with arrows on them. These arrows will allow you to look at different areas
of the map. You can control your view by clicking them. There is also the
zoom feature (+) which allows you to zoom in for a quick move.

You can start beginners' mission by clicking 'Training Mission' button.
When you create a mission room, you can change some settings that change
the name of the room, the number of teams, and the number of players. You
can also clear the mission by yourself. If you come back to the battle
channel, you can find a battle room where you can fight with other players
around the country. If you want to make your own battle room, click on the
empty square. You can also change the settings of the room, like you did
on 'Training Room.' For example, you can alter the play mode (i.e., Normal
Battle), Trade (Item Trading Room), All - In (Players bet some points and
winners take all) to make the game more exciting and easier to play.

Play thru the training mission several times, as this will gain some quick
experiance for your sailors, as well as give you a general feel for the game.
Even though you may think it is easy now, wait till ships shoot back. :-)

Once you are in the battle you will need to know how to control the ship.
Right click the mouse sets the direction you want the ship to travel. Press
the "F" key, to move forward and gain speed. Notice the red zone on the
Tachometer. If you need a boost, say to get out of the way of torpedos,
or to try and catch up with an enemy ship, press and hold the "F" key. This
will over rev the engines, but give you more speed for a few seconds. The "V"
key slows down, stops, and does MINOR reverse. I do NOT recomend stopping
in the middle of a fight.

You are then ordered to attack 3 dummyships. The first, just sits there
until you sink it. Easy. Just pull along side, and do a full broadside
(firing all guns in one direction) to the ship. Simple, congrats, you have
just sunk your first ship.

The next 2, will be sitting, until you damage one, then the real fun begins.
Not only will you have 2 ships to sink, but they are also moving. Try to
lead your targets, that is, anticpate thier movements, and shoot a little
ahead so that they run into your barrage. Once you have sunk them, the
battle is won.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ships
-----

Ships in Navy Field are divided into countries. Thier are a total of 6
different ship classes. Each ship also has a 2 letter accronym for
identification.

-Frigates(FF): Small, weak and fast. They use speed to stay out of harms way.
The main thing a frigate can do, is to try and help the bigger ships out, by
lending shots and providing something for the enemy to take out.:-)

-Destroyers(DD): Destroyers are pretty much bigger versions of frigats, with
more armor, and more displacement. These can take more of a beating before
being destroyed, and can carry BIGGER guns and more ammo. Torpedos start to
play a role on this class.

-Light Cruisers(CL): Displacing huge amounts of water, these ships are able
to make large scale attacks, and can usally take on more than 1 ship and
surrive.
However, these still are weak compared to larger ships, so you should still
work with your team.

-Heavy Cruisers(CA): Bigger and heavier versions of the aforementioned ship.
Some countries Heavy Cruisers look like smaller battleships. The presence of
these boats on a team usally insures victory.

-Carriers(CV): The flat tops of war. Floating cities. Carriers have coined
many names, but a carrier fighting from the sidelines launching aircraft
such as torpedo and dive bombers, can change the course of a battle in
minutes. Carriers are also equiped with minimal deck guns for self defence
if a ship gets close.

-Battleships(BB): The ultimate fighting ship of war. These displace over
40,000 tons and carry the largest guns known to man. One battleship, when
properly equiped, can take on several ships and win.

-----------------------------------------------------

Of course, Navy Field is nice. Included are 4 nations that fought in WW2.
Here is a list of ships available in the game. Also included is the symbol
belonging to each country's ships.

This guide, although contains lots of invaluble data, is far from being the
most complete and updated Guide/FAQ on Navyfield. We do plan to add more
things, such as weapons, ammo and key commands. We also plan to include our
fighting tactics. If you see any errors, or want to help out and update this
guide, please e-mail skittles- homeworld@excite.com

Any help, big or small, will make a difference.
And remember, when over the horizon 3 battleships with guns poised to fire,
your team gone, and your all alone, remember all the sailors that have died.
Thier souls rest with the sea. -Skittles
